President Of The Republic Compared The 2021 Result With 10% Inflation

Bolsonaro also compared the 2021 inflation with the 2015 figure, when inflation was 10.67%, the year before the impeachment of former President Dilma Rousseff (PT).

“Inflation last year hit 10%. 2014, 2015 also hit 10%, without anything abnormal, like, for example, we had the pandemic. I pray to God that Brazil is heading towards the end of the pandemic so we can return to our normality,” he said.

Last week, the president also made the same comment when talking about inflation. On the occasion, he stressed that in the face of the scenario of closing shops due to the pandemic, inflation was something “natural”.

“We had the Covid issue. With the ‘stay at home’ policy, the production chain suffered bumps, and then inflation is a natural issue. At least 38 million informal workers lost their earnings”, he stressed.

Commenting on the country’s economic scenario this Monday (17), President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said he was sure that inflation will decrease this year.

Last week, the rise in the IPCA (National Broad Consumer Price Index) was released, which closed 2021 at 10.06%, according to the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geogaphy and Statistics), after ending 2020 at 4.52 %. The president refers the situation to the pandemic.

“We went through difficult times during the pandemic, especially regarding the economy. But Brazil is the country that is suffering the least in this matter in the world, despite recognizing inflation, the increase in many prices.

But we will continue to fight unemployment, you can be sure that inflation will drop this year,” he said in an interview with Rádio Viva, broadcast on the president’s social networks.
