Valorant , shooter from the creators of League of Legends , will flood Madrid this weekend, because on Saturday and Sunday, the Gran Teatro CaixaBank in Príncipe Pío will host the final of the Red Bull Campus Clutch eSports World Cup .
This international tournament welcomes more than 300 universities from 53 countries around the world, but only the 12 countries that have qualified will be represented in the final , including Spain . Belarus, Peru, Pakistan, Belgium, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, South Korea, Turkey, Portugal and Egypt will be its 11 competitors.
DLL.Spain is the Spanish team made up of five Engineering students who came by chance to this Valorant tournament at the beginning of the year. Ángel Romero, one of its members, saw the announcement of the University World Cup through social networks and, with his four teammates, along with whom he had never competed, formed the team and signed up.
On May 1, they managed to win the national final and got a direct pass to the international championship, which will be held this weekend in Madrid. Saturday will be the group stage from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and, after knowing which of the 12 countries qualify, on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. the semifinal and the Grand Final will take place, whose winner will win a prize of 20,000 euros .
“Looking ahead to this weekend, for us it is a unique opportunity to be able to measure the level of Valorant that exists in the different regions of the world, and also because at the university level most of the students cannot compete at the highest level”, declares Ángel Romero, from the Spanish team . “I think it could be a good opportunity to show who I am and who we are as a team.”
